The Bow-Back Windsor Chair is the pub chair in its most recognizable form: a steam-bent bow framing flat, arrow-shaped spindles, a shaped solid seat and turned legs braced with an H-stretcher.
The Windsor has survived three centuries in taverns for good reasons. The legs and spindles are socketed into a thick seat, so the chair's structure is a triangle of forces rather than a box of glued joints; the stretchers lock the legs; and there's nothing to upholster, tear or stain. When a spindle does take a hit, it can be re-glued or replaced by any furniture repairer.
The seat is shaped to the body, so the chair is comfortable without a cushion, and wipes clean in seconds. The dark stain hides scuffs, and the commercial lacquer finish resists beer, water and sanitizer.
Windsors look right at plank tables, cast-iron pub tables and communal tables alike. They are not stackable; for flexible event spaces, mix them with our steel stacking chairs. Seat cushions can be added if the room is used for long dinners.
